To produce only the best. That was always the aim of Auguste Agassiz and Ernest Francillon. They made it a rule that Longines and the brand's watchmakers never ceased to follow it to the letter, year after year.
In 1867, the year that the brand's new workshop opened in Saint-Imier, a quiet hamlet in western Switzerland, Ernest Francillon presented a pocket hunter of fine proportions at the World Exhibition in Paris. Enthralled by the elegant simplicity of this timepiece, the jury awarded it a bronze medal. It was the first ever mechanically produced watch with a crown for winding and adjusting the hands.
From then on, Longines has won many prizes for the technical, mechanical and aesthetical quality of its watches.
